課程概述 |
This course is an introduction to the core concepts, strategies, and principles of management, emphasizing the techniques one can resort to in various contexts. Guided by the idea of evidence-based management, this course features not only empirical evidence drawn from sociopsychological research, but also guest talks that shed light on the implementation skills in real-life scenarios. |
課程目標 |
The goal of this course is to introduce the students the fundamentals in management. Specifically, upon completion of the course, the students are expected to:
1. Understand the concepts, theories, and principles of management.
2. Adopt appropriate strategies and techniques to use in management-relevant contexts.
3. Develop insights on the role of organization management and relevant practices in a globalized marketplace. |
課程要求 |
1. Preparation and attendance: Students are expected to prepare for each class by reading or watching assigned materials. Students may be called on to summarize the major arguments of the assigned materials and/or give their own interpretation or critique of them. Regular attendance is expected. Failure to attend regularly and be prepared will be grounds for a grade reduction at the professor’s discretion.
2. Professionalism and active participation: You should come to the class prepared to listen and participate. Your level of engagement with the materials is part of your grade. You are expected to contribute your thoughts and opinions during class discussion and group presentation.
3. Respect: All individuals in the class are expected to maintain mutual respect in the learning environment.
4. Laptops/tablets/cellphone policy: You are allowed to use laptops or tablets in class to take notes. You should, however, refrain from using the cellphone during class time, especially when your classmates are presenting their work. |

說明 |
1. |
Attendance |
11% |
Per school policy, failure to attend classes (excluding the two exams) 5 times or more will result in a straight fail in the final grade. You are allowed three absences; no need to tell me why you missed the class. Make sure you attend the presentation physically, though. |
2. |
Assignments |
6% |
There will be three assignments, each requiring you to read a case before class and answer questions based on your reading. These assignments will help your discussion and participation in class. |
3. |
Class participation |
13% |
Active class participation is highly encouraged. Although the class is in English, you may participate in the class discussion in Mandarin or any other language your instructor understands (unfortunately, currently, it’s just English and Mandarin, but I’m working on it). |
4. |
Mid-term |
20% |
This exam covers topics from weeks 1 through 7 and consists of multiple choice questions, short answer questions, and reflection questions on what you have learned so far. |
5. |
Group project |
50% |
The course instructors will grade 40%, and your peer members will grade 10%. For the group project, your ultimate goal is to write a case analysis for a case you have chosen. |
